Foraging in the forests.jpg

Freshly dug out root of Kuttikizhangu, a smaller version of the kaattuvellikizhangu, which Manigandan and Krishnan foraged for, in the scrub forests near their settlement. The thickness of the climber indicates how big the root and how deep they must dig to extract the root intact. These roots form part of the Irula's daily diet. The tender kuttikizhangu's skin is peeled off and the root is eaten as a snack.
