On a pitch dark night in Dec 2017, one year old Sakthivel was playing on the mud floor outside their family's mud hut. He seemed to be playing with a toy that moved when pressed. Sakthivel would then drag it back. On shooting the scene with a flash, the toy turned out to be a baby rat, which was Sakthivel's most favourite play thing, the only one he had. Irular families hunt for rats for their daily meal. They adopt baby rats they find in tunnels as pets.
